Examples include generative AI’s ability to:

  • generate creative content for marketing and sales, 
  • draft computer code based on natural-language prompts, and
  • a series of other tasks.

Generative AI can drive economic growth in several ways. It can enhance productivity by automating routine tasks, and freeing up human resources for more complex and creative tasks. It can also create new products and services, opening up new markets and revenue streams. 

Generative AI in Action

Generative AI is already making waves in various industries. In the fashion industry, for instance, it's being used to create unique and personalized designs. In the pharmaceutical industry, it's speeding up the drug discovery process by generating potential drug molecules. 

In the realm of content creation, Generative AI is being used to write articles, create music, and even produce films. These applications not only save time and resources but also open up new avenues for creativity and innovation.

The Next Productivity Frontier

At the moment it seems policymakers in Europe suffer from a deer in the headlight syndrome and do not know what to do. As a result, during the last weeks, Google and Microsoft have rolled out new AI-powered applications in the rest of the world with the exception of the EU. If this trend continues, Europe risks losing out on the principal technological revolution of our days, while in Brussels they are still wondering why Europe does not host a platform company like Google, and why the number of technological start-ups is lagging behind.
